Senior League Update
Over the last 6 Sundays the Cronulla Senior League squad has been competing in the Sydney Diamond Sports District Cup. The District Cup involves teams from 6 Sydney Associations as well as Central Coast & Newcastle.
Last Sunday Cronulla was involved in a very tight tussle with its arch rival Ryde. The Ryde team got away to a flyer scoring 5 runs in the top of the 1st. Cronulla answered back in the bottom of the second scoring 4 runs making the score 4-5. Over the next 2 innings each team scored 1 run apiece bringing the score to 5-6 going into the bottom of the 5th. It was at this point our ever reliable catcher, Connor Keen, stepped up to the plate with loaded bases and 2 out. With a full count Connor drove the ball to right field scoring 2 runs and putting Cronulla in the lead for the first time in the match. Cronulla then had to take to the diamond to defend its 7-6 lead. Darcy Edwards was called upon to shut down the Ryde bats and did so with 10 pitches. Time & game was called with Cronulla celebrating its victory.
A great game of baseball with solid batting with 1 hit each to Jaedyn Matai, Max Mrakovic, Connor Keen, Darcy Edwards, Zane Ross, Taituha Nukunuku, Beau White & Jayden Bastow. Our pitchers, Kirran McFarland starter, Alex Palmer reliever and Darcy Edwards closer did a great job over 6 innings. The fielding highlight goes to our catcher Connor Keen with 2 batters thrown out at 2nd base. Our final game of the District Cup is next week against Hills.
